Lucy's On The Course with Tags On
(sung to "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds")

daisyPicture yourself on a course at the nationals,
With a tangerine tire and marmalade skies,
Somebody faults you, cuz' your timing's quite slowl-y,
It's the judge with kaleidoscope eyes!
A cellophane a-frame of yellow and green,
Towering over your head,
Look for the judge with the sun in her eyes,
and hope that she's blind.
Lucy's on the course with tags on!
Lucy's on the course with tags on!

Follow her down to the end of the dogwalk,
Where a leap over the contact gives you a sigh.
Everyone laughs as you drive through the teeter,
and fly-off from so incredibly high.
Tunnel traps appear on the course,
Waiting to take you away,
Climb up the frame with your head in the clouds
And she's gone.
Lucy's on the course with tags on!
Lucy's on the course with tags on!
Picture yourself with a blue ribbon on the podium ,
With a plasticine trophy and your dog at your side,
Suddenly someone is blowing a whistle…
It's the judge with kaleidoscope eyes! daisy

June 4, 2008 - NEW - To All Campers

We are down to last minute preparations and getting ready to leave for camp in a few hours. I hope you are packed and ready to go and you and your dog are ready to rock and roll at Flower Power Paws Agility Camp 2008.

If you haven't had a chance to listen to the camp song while you pack, make sure you go to the updates page and read Jim's silly camp rendition of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.

Tomorrow is setup day and for those of you generous enough to help us starting at 11 AM, we will happily treat you to attending Moe Strenfel's weave lecture beginning at 5 PM. For those of you who are arriving later to camp, you can still earn some Power Paws bucks for part of your entry fee to the lecture. Thursday Check-in will begin at the camp office at 11:00 AM for those who are helping setup, and at 2:00 PM for those who are not.

There is also walk-in registration for the weave lecture beginning at 4:30 at the door to the lecture hall. Please bring your own chairs and a check or cash to pay the $35. lecture fee. The lecture will be finished around 7 PM.

Come pick up your cool camp T-shirt with a wonderful design by your fellow camper and my Hawaiian friend Ingrid Manzione. Take a look at some of her more serious work if you have a minute.
http://www.cedarstreetgalleries.com/bin/works.cgi?Artist=ManzioneIngrid

T-shirts are given to all 3 day campers and observers and a limited number will be available for sale for $20. Camp workbooks are for all campers and even one day observers.

On the updates page you may have seen the lunch order forms for Buds, the great local restaurant that is catering our lunches. You may print and fill it out before you come or pick up blanks at the Camp Desk. Please remember to order and pay for your lunch for all three days by Friday morning before camp starts. If you are joining us on Saturday or Sunday, please stop by the Camp desk in the morning to pick up your workbook and camper badge and place your lunch order before camp starts. Check-in will begin on Friday morning at 7 AM for those of you unable to join us Thursday. Camper orientation is at 7:45 in the middle of camp under the trees on Friday morning.

While there are lots of shade trees at Dixon which we will be taking advantage of, we could still use some extra canopies if you have one to share with us. Please mark your name on the canopy leg as well as the bag, so we can get it returned safely to you on Sunday. You may also want to bring your own personal umbrella and stand so you can move freely around the rings to watch, if you don't want to sit with the group. Observers dogs may not be under the canopies, but of course observers are welcome.

Before and after camp as well as during the lunch hour the rings are open for practice for campers as well as observers. We do ask that observers not use the equipment during the short 30 minute morning break.

On Friday night Power Paws is hosting a S'mores party. Come join us around 7:30 and toast your marshmallow and pull up a chair around the campfire (barbeque:) to visit with everyone. Entertainment welcomed in any form you like. Stupid pet tricks, camp songs, ghost stories. Bring em on.

Can't wait to see you all at camp.

Day Three Schedule Update

Debbie Berkley will be our ninth instructor at Camp 2008.

May 21, 2008 - Camp Update

Hi Campers! We are just two weeks away from our annual summer camp. We are in final preparations and can’t wait to see you all. The groups are being organized and we have a great bunch of dogs and handlers joining us this year.

THURSDAY JUNE 5, Set up Day

Starting at 12 Noon we will begin setting up for camp. At 5 PM Moe Strenfel will be giving her lecture “Understanding Weaves”. See the Lecture Description at the end of this update. The fee for the lecture is $35 and is payable at the door by cash or check or powerpaws bucks. You can earn all the bucks you need to attend the lecture by coming to camp before noon and spending a few hours helping us set up the rings. So… a little bit of fun work equals free lecture? Hope you will plan on joining us.

CHECK-IN
Check in will begin at 11 AM, but remember crating will not open till 2 PM unless you are helping. Plan on taking a few minutes at the check- in table to order your lunches for the weekend.

RV PARKING
We will post the RV parking map the week prior to camp. There is plenty of room for the 30 RV’s we are expecting, and we still have plenty of space if you are interested.

CANOPIES
We always need extra canopies at the rings for weather protection. If you have an extra canopy to loan us we would be most appreciative. Please E-mail me at powerpaws@aol.com to let me know if you are able to loan us a canopy or two.

CRATING
You will be able to set up your own canopy and crating area beginning at 2 PM unless you are volunteering to help setup the rings. Early crating for helpers will begin at 11 AM so that you will have time to get organized before we start setting the rings.
Don’t forget to bring a soft or hard crate to move from ring to ring so you have a comfortable home away from home for your dog at each session. You will have 8 different ring locations to visit, for your working sessions during camp. It is also a good idea to bring along a personal shade umbrella and stand, in case you want to spread out and give your dog some personal space. Observers are welcome under the canopies, but observers dogs will need to be crated elsewhere during working sessions. Please read over all the online information about observing at camp and our suggestions, guidelines and of course those pesky rules.

SCHEDULE and UPDATES
Check the Schedule page for starting times, and class session times. 8:00 AM start time each day including Sunday, which is a slight change from the anticipated 9 AM start. Don’t forget to check the updates page for any last minute messages we might want to pass along to you before camp.

CAMP WORKING GROUPS
The groups will be posted a few days before camp begins. Please check the updates page at that time.

EQUIPMENT FOR SALE
We have 36 Ready Jumps which will be used at camp and then sold by advance purchase.
http://clipandgoagility.com/ready-jump-dog-agility/index.htm
The jumps normally sell for 59.95 each plus shipping on the clip and go website or at Clean Run. We will be selling them for $55.00 which includes tax, and there is no shipping charge. They will be available to pick up at the end of camp, just after 3:00 PM on Sunday. To reserve your purchase, please contact

Understanding Weaves
Why is it that some dogs can learn weave poles quickly while others simply can’t get the job done no matter what you do or how much time you spend on it? This lecture focuses from the dog’s point of view, something that every good trainer/handler/instructor should do at every stage of an agility dog’s training.

Learn to identify what an efficient weaver looks like, how equipment used in the initial training process does affect the dog’s eventual performance and how different training methods can produce different types of weavers. Understand that weave poles can be split into three different behaviors. The most common methods of teaching the weave poles will be explored, looking at both the pros and cons of each method. Basic problem solving using a holistic approach will also be investigated.

This lecture is suitable for all levels of handlers and dogs. Please note this is a lecture format and not a working seminar. We shall be using Power Point presentation and video clips.
